5 Theories Why We’re Experiencing Increased Earthquake Activity

Infowars.com
March 19, 2011

Planet Earth has experienced a very noticeable up-tick in earthquake activity and intensity over the last five years. Leading up to the great Japan quake, we’ve witnessed the utter devastation from the 2004 Indian Ocean megathrust earthquake and tsunami, the catastrophic Haiti quake, an axis-moving Chile quake in 2010, massive and multiple quakes in New Zealand, and record earthquake swarms hitting Yellowstone and the New Madrid Fault line in middle America culminating with the worst earthquake in 35 years to hit the area, and many more.

The devastating effects on human civilization are on full display in the most recent 8.9 earthquake in Japan. The powerful quake and corresponding tsunami showed that not even a fully developed nation with the world’s third largest economy can withstand nature’s fury. This was also evident in the New Zealand quakes which continue to demolish the first-world city of Christchurch.
Evidence of increased tectonic activity aside, the great Japan quake of 2011 will go down as the event that finally woke up humanity from their slumber to recognize the potential damage quakes can and will cause. The huge quakes in Haiti and Chile last year indicated the power of such activity, but the effects of the nuclear meltdown happening in Japan will likely have global consequences that force society to challenge our conventional path.

This new awareness of our fragile existence in the face of such powerful forces of nature has brought about many theories as to why earthquake activity is increasing. Many will brush it off as natural occurrences without understanding that everything in nature is caused by something, whether or not it can be seen or measured. Indeed, we are witnessing many earth changes happening for the first time in modern history. And perhaps all of these anomalies are connected in some way, or at least compounding nature’s recent wrath.

Here are five theories as to the cause of increased earthquake activity: (CONTINUE READING)

Understanding The Effects Of Radiation

www.jplabs.com
If a person is exposed to radiation, especially high dose, there are predictable changes in our body that can be measured. The number of blood cells, the frequency of chromosome aberrations in the blood cells and the amount of radioactive material in urine, are examples of biomarkers that can indicate if one is exposured high dose. If you do not have early biological changes indicated by these measurements the radiation exposure will not pose an immediate threat to you.
The risk for radiation exposure has been very widely studied. The general consensus of opinion for the induction of cancer by ionizing radiation is 10% increase in cancer rate/Sv when the dose is given over a short time with a decrease to 5% when the dose is protracted over an extended time period. (one Sv is equal to 1000 mSv and one mSv is equal to 100 mRem.). Therefore a 10% increase in cancer is related to a dose of 100,000 mrem with 5% if the dose is protracted over a longer period of time.

THRESHOLD FOR RADIATION INDUCED CANCER (LOW DOSE)
There is no doubt that radiation can cause cancer. The question is what level of radiation it takes to cause cancer. Some belive that this low level is about 20 rads. Below this dose it is not possible to detect adverse health effects (this level has been set by ICRP). The Health Physics Society has issued a position statement "Radiation Risk in Perspective" that addresses this issue. The statement does not claim that there are no observable health effects below 10 rem but that health risks, if they exist below 10 rem, are too small to be observed. The facts in the matter of radiation effects at low doses are very simple: no one knows whether there is any risk or not. All we can say now is that no one has detected any statistically significant effect at doses below about 100 mSv (10 rem). Some epidemiological studies suggest an increased risk of cancer in 15-20 rads dose range. However, the data suggest that risks in the 15-20 rem dose range are very small and difficult to measure. Above 10 rem there appears to be a significant risk of thyroid cancer due to radioiodine exposure in children 15 years of age and younger.

EFFECT OF A HIGH DOSE ON HUMANS AND SYMPTOMS
It is well established that high dose ionizing radiation can cause cancer. Effect/symptoms of a high dose is shown below.(Adapted from IOM/NRC, 1999a)
 0 to 25 rads:
  • No easily detectable clinical effect in humans.
  • However, at about 15 rads there could be temporary sterility (Testis).
25 to 100 rads:
  • Slight short-term reduction in blood cells.
  • Disabling sickness not common.
100 to 200 rads:
  • Nausea and fatigue.
  • Vomiting if dose is greater than 125 rads.
  • Longer-term reduction in number of some types of blood cells.
200 to 300 rads:
  • Nausea and vomiting on the first day of exposure.
  • Up to a two-week latent period followed by appetite loss, general malaise, sore throat, pallor, diarrhea, and moderate emaciation.
  • Recovery in about three months unless complicated by infection or injury.
300 to 600 rads:
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in first few hours.
  • Up to a one-week latent period followed by loss of appetite, fever, and general malaise in the second week.
  • Followed by bleeding, inflammation of mouth and throat, diarrhea, and emaciation.
  • Some deaths in two to six weeks.
  • Eventual death for 50% if exposure is above 450 rems.
  • Others recover in about six months.
Over 600 rem:
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in the first few hours.
  • Followed by rapid emaciation and death in 2nd week.
  • Eventual death of nearly 100%.
High dose could lead to death. Table below shows lethality within 24 to 48 hrs after radiation exposure without medical treatment:

Cover Up Of Fukushima Chain Reaction Underway

Cover Up Of Fukushima Chain Reaction Underway 140311top2Paul Joseph Watson & Steve Watson Infowars.com March 14, 2011 Cover Up Of Fukushima Chain

All the nuclear reactors at the earthquake stricken Fukushima nuclear plant are under threat of melting down and exploding in a chain reaction that will signify the world’s worst ever nuclear disaster and send clouds of radioactive particles hurtling towards the United States – that’s the scale of the crisis facing Japan as officials admit for the first time that three nuclear reactors are already in a meltdown. While the mainstream media continues to argue over the definition of a “meltdown” while unquestionably regurgitating the dubious claim of Japanese officials that the two massive explosions witnessed at the plant were caused by pressurized hydrogen, radioactive isotopes cesium-137 and iodine-121 have been detected by helicopters flying 160km (100 miles) away from the nuclear plant, which can only mean one thing, according to the Seattle Times: “One or more of the reactor cores is badly damaged and at least partially melted down.” After claiming for three days that the explosions did not damage reactor cores and downplaying the severity of the situation, Japanese officials have now been forced to admit the obvious, that nuclear fuel rods in three reactors are melting. Given the sequence of events, it is entirely probable that all six reactor sites will now go into total meltdown and start spewing radioactive particles into the atmosphere that threaten not only Japanese citizens but also those living on the west coast of the United States. The two explosions have already compromised the surrounding facilities. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from a 20-km exclusion zone around the plant which keeps growing. Latest reports suggest that the exclusion zone is already at 50km and expanding. Casualties in the immediate vicinity of the nuclear facilities are likely to be far higher than reported. Japanese authorities, presumably in an effort to prevent hysteria, have engaged in a cover-up of the true scale of the Fukushima crisis from start to finish, and they have been largely aided by a mass media that has slavishly repeated their lies without question, despite the fact that there is a long history of covering up nuclear catastrophes in Japan. This process has only put the Japanese people in more danger.  (CONTINUE READING ARTICLE)

Radiation From Fukushima Would Take 7 Days To Reach U.S.

Radioactive particles from the stricken Fukushima nuclear facility would take around a week to reach Alaska and eleven days to reach Los Angeles, according to an Accuweather.com analysis, which highlights the fact that prevailing winds over the region would send any potential fallout from the crisis-hit plant drifting towards west coast cities in the United States.
Given the fact that many analysts believe the Japanese government is grossly understating the amount of radioactive particles released by the two separate explosions to affect the Fukushima plant, one which occurred Saturday and one earlier today, monitoring stations in Alaska will not know if there is a threat from such radiation until Saturday at the earliest.
“Radiation detected at the Fukushima plant on Monday is twice the maximum seen so far,” the BBC is reporting, citing Kyodo News.
An Accuweather.com analysis highlights how prevailing wind trajectories would take the radiation from a westerly direction towards the west coast of the United States.
“A typical wind trajectory across the Pacific is westerly, since there is often a large dome of high pressure over the central Pacific and an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Alaska,” writes meteorologist Meghan Evans.
Today’s localized winds are set to carry any radiation out into the Pacific from a north westerly to south easterly direction. However, “The wind direction will switch to an onshore direction Monday night into Tuesday, threatening to send the radiation toward the population,” writes Evans. (CONTINUE READING ARTICLE)
